Acetolin has a symbiotic nitrogen-fixing bacterium Acetobacter diazotrophicus which is mainly for sugarcane. Nearly 40% of biological nitrogen fixation in Sugarcane is due to this bacterium. It addition to nitrogen fixation it also secretes useful growth promoting hormones such as Indole Acetic Acid (IAA).
